Chief of the Department - CFD Car 1

Chief Jerry Murray

Chief Murray started his career as a Firefighter in 1979 with Trout Brook Engine & Hose Company. He rose through the ranks first as Lt. then as Captain there.

Jerry transferred to Walton Engine & Hose Company when he moved across town and soon became Lt.

After being a Line Officer with WE&H, he was appointed Department Safety Officer by then Chief Les E. Greenwood. Jerry remained at that position until he was elected Car 3 in 2002.

Subsequently he rose to the rank of Car 2 and is now the Department's Chief in his Second Term.

Chief Murray is proud to lead the Firefighters of the Chester Fire Department with enthusiasm, fairness and honor.

He emphasizes Safety and Training and is working with the Board of Fire Commissioners and his Officers to assure the community is served by a Professional group of volunteers.

Dan Doellinger

Chief Doellinger has served the Chester Fire Department as a member of the Trout Brook Engine & Hose Company for 16 years.

He joined the Department as a junior in High School in March 1991.

In his home company, Trout Brook Engine & Hose, Dan has held the offices of President and Treasurer, as well as the ranks of Lt. and Captain.

When he is not leading the CFD, Dan is a Sergeant with the Town of Chester Police Department. Dan is a lifelong resident of the Town of Chester. He graduated from Monroe-Woodbury High School and earned an AAS degree in Fire Protection Technology from SUNY Rockland.

Chief Doellinger's experience as a Police Officer and his calm, collected nature under pressure makes him a great asset to the command staff of the CFD.


J.W. Verbert

J.W. Verbert

Chief J.W. Verbert has been a member of the CFD's Walton Engine & Hose Company since he was a junior Firefighter.

If you recognize the name of Chief Verbert from Chester, then you may be thinking of Chief J.W. Verbert's father or Grandfather. This Firefighting family has been serving the Department for well over 50 years.

His enthusiasm and hard work moved him up the ranks in his company until he reached the office of Assistant Chief in 2006.

J.W. is a Police Officer with the Village of Chester Police Department and a life long resident of the community.

Robert Capone

Past Chief Capone has lead the men of the Chester Fire Department for the past 9 years moving up the ranks from Lt in Sugar Loaf Engine Company to Captain.

He was elected Assistant Chief in 1999 under then Chief Steve Zoutman.

In 2005 Bob retired as Chief of the Department and was appointed Deputy Chief 4.

His knowledge, honor and experience has made him an asset to the command staff of the department to present.

Bob is a 25+ year member of the Sugar Loaf Engine Company where he remains active both firematically and civilly.
